The first time in history, that an all ladies team will compete in the UK Funcup Endurance Championship.
Michelle and the GT Radial ladies team finish 9th in the 4 hour Funcup Endurance race at Snetterton on 23 July.
“The grid is chosen at random, so when the draw put us on the pole position I couldn’t believe it. Funcup use rolling starts, which is different to Clubmans. Many teams use their pro drivers in the first and last stints. With these guys having raced these cars all year, the pressure was really on for me not to mess it up.”
Michelle successfully fended off the attacks for the first lap, and then held on to the lead pack for while, before a small mistake lost her the slipstream tow.
“Once I had lost the tow, I struggled to close up the growing gap.”
Wendy Ellis-Smith was second behind the wheel. The leaders edged away, and by the time Zoe Wenham was on track the team were in need of a safety car to close up the pack, without which at some point the GT Radial Ladies Team lost the lead lap during pitstops.
“With a podium out of reach, we had to dig deep in the latter stages of the race to improve our race position. We had all hoped to achieve a top10 finish, which Zoe successfully held on to in the final laps of the race to take the chequered flag in P9. We were really pleased with the result. Grateful thanks to GT Radial for funding a superb weekend, it was so good to be back.”
